Assistance for the People of Haiti
OUR PROJECT: Orono High School students have undertaken an inspiring school community project in connection with ImpactLives, a Minnesota-based non-profit organization dedicated to facilitating international humanitarian efforts and other projects. ImpactLives, founded in 2007 by Ramon A. Pastrano, facilitates national and international projects that seek to transform the lives of people around the world.
At the same time, our students, along with their school community, have the opportunity to participate in service to others, expand their global perspective, and recognize the impact they may have on the world around them. To do this, on Tuesday, March 2, OHS students plan to transform the high school gymnasium into a center where their school community comes together to prepare meals for the people of Haiti.
OUR GOAL: Orono High School students have created an opportunity for their school community to come together in service to the people of Haiti. To do this, they have made a commitment to raise the funds necessary to pack as many meals as possible. OHS students have already pledged funds raised through various activities. Throughout the month of February, they will be fund-raising and reaching out to businesses and community members to promote support for their food-packing day. They also plan to raise funds through the sale of event T-shirts.
HOW YOU CAN PARTICIPATE: Our students know that they are part of an extremely supportive community that truly cares for them, and they appreciate any contribution you make toward this project. Through your individual or business contribution, you can sponsor the purchase and packing of hundreds of meals. You can also participate by helping to pack meals or buying a T-shirt.
